salvation through jesus christ

Have you ever found yourself facing a wall of hesitation because you do not quite understand this salvation thing and you are hoping that someone will help clarify it for you? Then you may have stumbled upon just the right bible study lesson. In The Many Names of God we studied some common names that God has revealed unto us. And we discovered that this amazing God has provided practically a name for every occasion and need that we may have. So then, there shouldn’t be any surprises that God also provided a name or a way that can be used for our salvation….Right?

Wrong!

This really shouldn’t be a surprise. But there are many who believe that we can obtain salvation through many mediums and it is not resolved to obtaining salvation through Jesus Christ alone. We’ll all these answers in this salvation bible study lesson as we discuss these four important questions:

  • Why is Salvation Necessary?
  • Who is Jesus Christ?
  • Is Jesus God or the Son of God?
  • Can we find Salvation through Jesus Christ?

My hope is that at the end of this bible study topic, you will have a clearer understanding on why salvation can only come through Jesus Christ. Let’s begins this bible study topic by addressing the first question:

Why is Salvation Even Necessary?

It would make no sense to jump head on into this salvation bible study without first reviewing why salvation is even necessary. So let’s go back to the beginning for some answers …This all began with the sin of one man, Adam.

Salvation Scriptures Snippet: Romans 5:12 King James Version (KJV)

12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Because of Adam’s disobedience, the whole human race became tarnished and sinful and our ultimate end was death and total destruction. Click here to find out more

So without even making the choice for ourselves, we all found ourselves on the road of death without any hope.

Salvation Scriptures Snippet: John 3:16 King James Version (KJV)

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

But God ‘so loved us’! Halleluiah!

This is the ultimate power of Love…

He loved us so much that he created a way of escape, a way of salvation through Jesus Christ, for any and everyone who would believe.

Who Is Jesus Christ?

Isaiah described him perfectly in Isaiah 9:6:

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Isaiah calls Jesus …

  • the Mighty God,
  • the Everlasting Father,

You may be wondering, how can Jesus be the Mighty God or the Everlasting Father?

John shed some understanding in John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John took opportunity not only to say that the Word was in the beginning, be he also stated that this Word was with God…then he said something glorious

The Word was not only with God but …

… It was God

This was the same word that was used in Genesis 1: 3 when God spoke and said ‘let there be light!’

Let’s see how we can know this …

Hebrews 1: 1 – 2 :

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

If that was not wonderfully enough, Colossian 1: 16 emphasizes by saying :

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

But John did not stay there ..no Sir – ry! He went a little further in his explanation. Let’s look at John 1: 14

14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Ok, deep breath…let’s recap, before we go forward:

We’ve already discovered the

  1. That Word of God was not only with God but that it was God
  2. We also discovered in Hebrews and Colossians, and now John 1: 14 that this Word put on flesh
  3. Which means that God put on flesh

Do you see why Isaiah 9:6 was right by calling the ‘child that was born, and the son that was given’ – the Mighty God? Because he was God in the flesh!

Ok, forward march we go …

So then Jesus, being the Word of God, was God. When the Word was robed in flesh he was revealed to us as ‘The Son of God’.

Let’s us look listen to Paul, in Colossians 1: 15 who said

‘Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature’

If we were to look at ourselves in a mirror what would we see? Our image. Our image is not separate from us is it? No. It is a reflection of us! But we are still one and the same person…right?

An image is something that we behold, with our eyes, in a mirror. If we raise our hands, our image would be doing the same. If we speak, you would see our image doing the same. If we jump.. well guess what … our image will be jumping as well.

So then if Jesus Christ is the image of God then

  1. He is the reflection of God
  2. He is one and the same
  3. Everything he does, says, think will be God doing it himself because

my friends …

  1. He is God

So if we are looking to see God who would we be seeing his image, who is Jesus. His reflection who is Jesus. Wow!

Let us jump back up to Colossians 1: 15 for another moment:

‘Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature’

This verse shows that Paul understood that Jesus, the Son of God, represented ‘God in the flesh’. Or God in a body that can be seen. So God being a Spirit, robed himself in flesh so that we can see him. So that he can redeem us back to himself. God made Himself a body to redeem man from sin. He then was called JESUS

What Does the name Jesus mean?

It means ‘Jehovah is Salvation’ or God our Salvation! That why we know that we can find salvation through Jesus Christ.

Isaiah saw this way back then when he said Isaiah 7:14

Salvation Scriptures Snippet: Isaiah 7:14

14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Then Matthew took the baton and confirmed the same thing, that God shall come in the flesh, in Matthew 1:23:

Salvation Scriptures Snippet: Matthew 1: 23

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

So Jesus is not only

  • The Word of God
  • The Son of God
  • The Lamb of God

But He is God Himself

Here is Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:19 confirming the same thing:

Salvation Scriptures Snippet: 2 Corinthian 5: 19

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Wow! That was a mouthful of revelation right there wasn’t it? Thank God for understanding.

Ok so now that I have exhausted the daylight out of that second question, J it will be easy for us to answer the third question, which was, Is Jesus God or the Son of God?

Above we’ve already discovered that Jesus is God and He is the Son of God. But we understand that the ‘Son of God’ means God revealing himself to us in flesh. Now let’s take this salvation bible study a notch higher shall we, by answering

Can We Find Salvation Through Jesus Christ?

Well, can we find salvation through Jesus Christ hmmm… we most certainly can. If you have traveled with me, all through this lesson then you would realize that we have already discovered the answer, haven’t we? Ok, so now let’s add little bit of meat to the bones:

After that long discovery that we have just made above, it is easier for us to understand why we can find salvation through Jesus Christ and why we cannot find salvation through any other way. Why? Because God only provided to us, one way!

It’s not only about the name, Jesus, but also the stripes that he took for our sins and healing, the blood that he shed for our redemption, and also his resurrection! Because he rose, there remains hope … that we also shall rise again.

God, has revealed himself to us as Our Victor ( Jehovah Nissi), Our Peace ( Jehovah Shalom), Our Sanctification ( Jehovah Mckaddesh), just to name a few. Now he chose to reveal to us his salvation name:

Salvation Scriptures Snippet: Acts 4: 10-12

‘Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man  stand here before you whole…..Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved’

Well, this scripture sums it all doesn’t it?

There is none other name under heaven where we can find salvation. Only in the name of Jesus Christ. So this means then, that there might be many different names that we use, at different intervals in life.

But when we need salvation, the only name that was given to call is ‘Jesus Christ’. The Only name that was given for this instance in our life is ‘Jesus Christ’. If we decide that we will use another name, it will not work. Jesus simply means ‘Jehovah Save Us’ or God Saves!

It is just a simple automatic response: if we call on God by the name Jehovah Jireh then he knows that we are asking for him to provide. So when we call on the name of Jesus Christ, he knows we are asking for salvation. Let us look at what Jesus himself said about this:

Salvation Scriptures Snippet : John 10:9

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

So Jesus is saying, in other words, ‘I am the entrance.’ ‘I am the access point’. If you try to enter anywhere else you will find dead ends. But if we want to get into this house, if we want to be saved, we must come through the door or the way that was provided, which is Jesus.
